Connecting you with resources to guide you on your path.
Restoring balance to our community and healing our Mother Earth.
Bear Root Resource Center aims to S.H.I.F.T. the narrative to Support, Heal, Inspire, Fulfill, and Transform individual lives and communities in all 4 directions.
We have two distinct paths to protect our community:
1. We are building community through our S.H.I.F.T programs. We teach people to be in relationship with land and connect to their cultural roots.
2. We are uniting people to overcome and thrive in response to the local and global impacts of climate change.
Bear Roots Resource Center is an Indigenous and Black collaboration, honored as a woman led charitable organization that is dedicated to serving and empowering our community with prayerful intentions, our Executive Leadership Team includes Keri R. Akemi-Hernandez, Executive Director/Founder, who is focused on bringing solutions to protect and transform our most vulnerable communities who are disproportionately impacted by climate change, legacy pollution, and historical disinvestments.
We took a different approach to connect with you. View our Universal commitment and dedication, which aims to go beyond a Land Acknowledgement. We offer many resources here and please share with others.
CalNonprofits members represent the rich diversity of California’s nonprofit sector.
Members range in budget and staff sizes and are located across the state – from Eureka to San Diego, from Modoc to Imperial counties. Their missions are focused on an array of issues: arts, climate change, social justice, food insecurity, housing and homelessness, voting rights, and so much more.
Our Bear Root Resource Center strives to offer an inclusive safe space to gather locally and offer ways to connect to our expanding global network to collaborate with others. We apply Indigenous Epidemiology as a lens to teach traditional knowledge and support the well-being of our community members as a whole person (Mind, Body, Soul), and use this data to empower our community. We developed programs to enrich lives of individuals from all backgrounds to be able to fulfill their full potential. We offer resources for allies and community partners to learn how to be in right relations with BIPOC communities and implement multi-racial equitable agreements to maintain long-term commitments.
We apply Ujima to build and maintain community together through cultural revitalization, restorative justice, regenerative resources for BIPOC multi-racial and Two Spirit LGBTQIA+ communities to thrive. Collaborating with community leaders and creating coalitions to advocate, protect and impact policy to enrich lives of our diverse community. We are guardians for our youth, to nurture stability for our future 7 generations, and we are dedicated to collectively protect all that is sacred in perpetuity, as a legacy to honor the wisdom of our elders, and to those who came before us and made it possible from their efforts.
